Manage Fluids
As the body relaxes, there may be leakage of fluids. If your pet isn't already positioned on a blanket, place one underneath them, particularly under their tail and mouth. Lay down a layer of plastic underneath to prevent any mess. It's important to avoid placing your pet directly on plastic without a absorbent layer in between.
Prepare for Transport
Depending on the timeframe for your final arrangements, it's essential to consider interim plans for your pet. Larger pets can become challenging to move after 3-4 hours due to stiffening of the body.
Position your pet on their side, and if their legs are stretched out, gently fold them closer to the body. Wrap a towel or blanket snugly around their body, ideally wrapping twice. Then, place your pet in a box or container that evenly distributes the weight for easier lifting. Transport them to a cool, dry location with a hard floor, ideally situated conveniently for the next steps in their journey.
